Yesterday was a flurry of wild activity in the office. Went to a focus group meeting to improve how we use our internal and external knowledgebase software. The CEO pulled up a chair next to me and off we went. The 1 hour meeting turned into a 2 hour meeting. I got to see all sorts of powerplays and bitchfests go on. It's kind of cool to observe human nature and how it differs in people. This is a lot easier to do when you know that your job has little interaction with the biggest egos in the room.
At one point, the question was asked if my job was strictly working on the web. I explained that the job has become "Electronic Marketing" based. I take care of the LED signs, the plasma screen video messages, and all web responsibilities, as well as learning how to create marketing goals from the extensive data collected and creating sophisticated search queries through this amazing database. The CEO pipes up "She's a genius in what she does."
Wow. I've just been having fun while doing my job. I've barely even gotten started doing things...I'm just fixing what I was given to make it better. Color me very surprised, and doubly motivated.
So, one hour leads to two, which leads to a whole slew of new items on my project list that get my creative juices flowing. I get back to my desk and my Marketing manager gives me a palm sized hand made chocolate rabbit as a bribe. A bribe to do what they hired me to do! I accept eagerly and dive in. Make a pretty poster to sell these rabbits made in the UP for $1 a piece to members to raise money for a Capitol Hill group that represents the voice of the credit unions. And then make a message for the plasma screens. Yeah. Making the pretty, eating the chocolate, having the fun, getting the buxxors.
