It's been 34 weeks since I finished physical therapy. Today, I have about 95% of my previous mobility, and about 85% of my strength back. It still hurts a little every day, and a lot on some days. June 23 is the one year mark of the second surgery. In all, I'm pretty pleased with the physical progress. Next up, finishing the healing of the emotional parts. Anyone who says it's taken too long is welcome to walk a mile in my sandals.

I am still planning on a tattoo, just don't know when, yet. That will mark the start of turning an ugly event into a thing of beauty that shows my strength of character and will. I want to look at my hand and see something pretty instead of a jagged reminder. This is my story and I will tell it proudly.

You've done fabulously and don't let anyone ever tell you different.

I am reminded of Depeche Mode:

"Try walking in my shoes
You'd stumble in my footsteps
Keep the same appointments I kept
If you try walking in my shoes"

"turning an ugly event into a thing of beauty"

Well, that's life, isn't it? Turning what can be a series of ugly events in an imperfect world into a thing of beauty! You should be proud, you've stuck it out and you've gotten a sense of humor about the whole thing (your icon still makes me chuckle).
