Why didn't anyone warn us that Bridge to Terabithia was such a sour piece of shite?

We saved what we thought was going to be a sweet movie to watch Sunday night. What a disappointment.

On the flip side, we watched Perfume: The Story of a Murder on Friday and loved, loved, LOVED it! I felt like I was in my element among all those scents. I could create it all in my head, it was quite the trip to watch. And who could blame him for wanting work with "essence of redhead"!!!!

I'll have to check out Perfume: The Story of a Murderer because it was a REALLY good book :) Did you read it?

Sadly, no. But it's now on my reading list. I can only imagine the book is richer, but the movie was damn compelling with beautiful cinematography!

I'll just bet it was. That is one story that could translate beautifully to the screen if done right, and it sounds like it was :)

I am so sorry that I did not mention that about Bridge to Terabithia. I wasn't journaling much at the time. But that movie was sooooooooooooooooooooo much a downer. The ads for it made it look like a delightful romp into a mystical wonderland, but in reality... Whoa! What a downer! Again, my sincerest apologies. Perhaps a delightful pallet cleanser... how about Pan's Labrynth. ;-)

If you liked the movie, you should check out the book. It's one of my all-time favorites.

It was a limited release movie late last year that went to only the art theaters as far as I can tell.

I watched Perfume on Friday night too. I was apprehensive because I loved the book so much, but it was a faithful and well-done adaptation. I think you'll enjoy reading it. :-)
31st-Jul-2007 01:09 am (UTC) - PSA on another bad movie...
Since we're synching again... B and I tried to watch this:
http://www.amazon.com/Yo-Yo-Girl-Cop-Riki-Takeuchi/dp/B000OU6XVG

I mean, how could we go wrong? Martial arts. Violence. Explosions. Yo yos. Japanese girls in school uniforms having cat fights? I mean... quality stuff right?

No. We paused the movie several times, not to laugh but to recover from chest crushing fits of W T F. Running time - 90 minutes. Eject button - 45.

It looked to me like it was going to be a disney knockoff of Gaiman, Mckean, Del Toro. I haven;t seen it yet though.... I am guessing I should probably wait to do so?

Yeah...not so much. It's a story of childhood tragedy, on the order of My Girl. Pointless and there's some religion you are smacked with pretty hard and gracelessly.

It seems like a lot of books which are really wonderful children's literature get turned rather crappy when Hollywood gets involved. I haven't seen Bridge to Terabithia yet because I loved the book and have a feeling the movie will disappoint. Same with Tuck Everlasting. The movie basically has none of the meaning the book has. It's really sad.
