Olive Green
Tell me, very specifically, what is your most favorite color?

I tend to love them all for different reasons, but there is one color that stands out for me. And it can't be just any shade. And many people find it interesting to learn that for me it isn't a shade of purple. And this most beloved color for me can only be found in transparent mediums. It doesn't do the same for me as a flat color, although I do enjoy it. This color never fails to make me stop and wistfully enjoy it, wherever it occurs.

I think it may stem back to a happy moment in my childhood. I had several lengths of tiny clear plastic spheres on a strand. This color was more unusual than the rest of the strands and it's embedded in my memory. I can recall playing with those things, they were about 2' long and I'd hold one by an end, letting it dangle down and start spinning it until the it was a blur of color and shape. It's why, I think, I like cobalt blue glass, and ruby glass, and amber glass as well, but my favorite was the olive.

Interestingly, I could even find the scientific breakdown of my color! Olive-green colored reduced glass compositions are disclosed in which the glass is a soda-lime-silicate glass having Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, S.sup.-2 and Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 present in the following approximate ranges in % by weight.

Share a story of why if you have one, or just reply with a shade. But please, tell me your favorite color. Feel free to use pictures!

Gunmetal Gray, particularly in brushed aluminum, has been my favorite for a few years.

Second is cobalt blue, particularly in translucence, such as my pint glasses.

Third would be deep supersaturated jewel tones, as they say.

Special mention goes to my favorite color of all time, a supersaturated deep dark yellow, because it's visually impossible - but exists in LAB color and your imagination. ;)

I'm between favorites at the moment.

The usual cake-taker is the purple/black of a deep night sky.

Ahhh, yes. For me, that is the color of magick!

One, most favorite? Can't be done. It highly depends on what the color is on. Some of the top contenders are celery green, seafoam green, milky raspberry, plum, pumpkin, ... I could go on and on. Yeah, too many to pick from. It's like asking your audiophile husband what his favorite note or tone is.

Silver, but only at its very brightest and best, and only in little tiny amounts. Seeing a tiny sliver of it at an unexpected time, when it's absolutely pristine is very magical. Or on a car. A clean car. Dirty change does nothing for me, though. I don't feel a little scream of joy every time someone hands me a quarter.

Oh! Marvelous! This was the kind of story I was hoping to hear. YOu totally get the joy that I was trying to explain!!

Just because most people don't want the kind of story you're asking for, when asked, I say "shiny." It usually amuses or confuses.
But you actually asked, so...
My favorite color is the metallic blue-green-black of a dragonfly's wing, that shade that is at once one color and 17, a color that changes with the sunlight. There is no picture I can attach.
Second favorite color, though, I can find a pic of - red silk. The color conveys the weight and sheen and even the feel of the fabric.
I never realized how complicated my thoughts about colors are. Maybe I should just stay with "shiny"...

You have no idea how much pleasure I get from hearing someone explain a particular color that sparks that joy and complex memory. I truly believe that colors, smells, and some sounds are all intense memory triggers.

Thank you so very much for sharing this!

red. specifically, this red:

it reminds me of passion, power, the dangerous femme fatales of yesteryear, seduction, and, in some ways, vulnerability.

Totally your signature color.

*thinks* I may have inadvertently worn this shade thanks to you. *grin*

A dark shade of scarlet. Something like #660000:

That rich warm moss-green from the 70s. The closest of those glass containers is deep yellow olive.

Thank you! I am such a color junkie. I honestly can't stand to have any white rooms in my house. Neutrals just leave me feeling blah. I kinda got my curiosity up to find out what others consider beloved colors. I still hope to get some more comments.

Here are some pictures of the color on the living room walls

Good old #FF0000. Reddest red.

My favorite color is black.
Why? I don't know how to describe it.
I'll use someone else's poetry, "Black has become your favourite colour -- for all the things it can conceal."

When I wear black, I feel like I'm in a nice, familiar blanket.

A specific shade of red always gets my attention. It's like blood, with warmth and depth and it seems thick, but with a touch more blue. It looks like ruby red depression glass. Deep, with light, but not bright or shiny. In fabric, it feels quiet and loud at the same time. I can't look away from it.

Deep rich purple with a blue/red undertones. Definitely no fuschia/pink tones to it.

I spent this past summer painting my study Exotic Purple. Purple, to me, is the colour of passion, strength and intensity.
