Snot
My leetel frien', the snot monster, has taken up residence in Brian's lungs. We are going to the doctor's today so that he can get better, faster. I think that when he coughed so hard he felt dizzy, it was time. This morning, his cough makes me wince and shudder. Vile virus. This morning he's coughing up colors. That's my breaking point, and obviously his, seeing that he agreed to the doctor with no fussing when I suggested it this morning.

When I go in to work today, I am going in armed with a bottle of disinfectant spray. It will not leave my side, and I am prepared to use it. I work with young mothers who bring their germs to work so they can save their sick days for tending their petri dishes at home. This kindness keeps spreading and I tire of it.

Petri dishes! I love it. Yeah, kids really are little walking germ vectors.

Ben's just as sick ): as much as he might hate it, if he's not doing better when i get home from work, i'm dragging his ass somewhere. not sure yet exactly WHERE, but he needs more help than the behind-the-counter NyQuil and Mucinex can provide.

hang in there, woman. i'm doing my best to avoid catching this vile plague.

i've said it before... children are worse carriers of the plague than rats.

It *does* suck when people come in sick to work, but I think it's even worse that we live in a work culture where parents feel they have to save their sick days so they can take care of their kids. We also have a culture that makes a virtue out of work, work, work, rather than life balance.

Norway has 5 weeks of mandatory vacation time every year. England has 4. We don't have any.

I know your office is a generally nice environment, and I'm not sure what the individual sick leave policy is. :) You just got me on a rant that I periodically get stuck in.

We get a certain amount, not a generous allotment, of PTO each year based on hours you work in a week and years with the credit union. If you take them as vacation days, then you get no sick days. They don't differentiate...it's just Paid Time Off.

And I think because young people have abused it, it's not very negotiable.

I have been calling children "walking petri dishes" for several years now. They are mini-harbingers of the black death. >.

He doesn't stay congested for long, mostly it's a constant pouring of snot...which has seeped into his lungs and turned icky colors. I have kept up some oils for him, but they aren't penetrating yet.
