The good:
I love being in on the joke. Truly. Went to see Ironman last night and it was Superb! What a great ride from start to finish! And stay to the very end! It's just full of all sorts of "Aw helllls yeah!" *still cracking up over a comment alchemuse texted me with afterward last night*

The sad:
Brian told me that he experienced something that chilled him yesterday. He was doing maintenance to our Kiosk at our Flint branch at Vg's. There was a little boy, about 5 or 6, near and one of our tellers said hello to him. He looked at her and said "I don't talk to white people." *hearbreak* WTF people?

My my my....

Watching previews for Ironman, it does look VERY good and I'm glad to hear a good review of it from a HUMAN instead of a critic.

As for the the child @ VG's my heart sighs.... Oh my... I...... Just have no words...... *Sigh*

Consider that comment came from a 5/6 year old. He might've just been saying whatever he thought was necessary to keep the scary stranger from talking to him. I told (no pun intended) white lies like that when I was a kid if it meant I felt a little safer.

There's also the chance that his parents told him not to talk to white people to protect him rather than just as a matter of racial snobbery. I've heard grown white folk say the most hurtful things to very young black children in the most off-handed ways, things that you'd think wouldn't have even been a fleeting thought in anyone's head since the civil rights movement. I've heard some of those things from my own extended family, I'm sad to admit.

Racism is not a non-issue, as much as I wish it was. I really do hope it's dying out with the older generations though.

You know, things like that from kids really disturb me. Children trust adults, they model them, and then they echo stuff like this.

I'm similarly disturbed when I see Westboro Baptist kids interviewed on TV and they repeat their whole "God hates fags" thing, and you can clearly tell they have no idea what this all means, but you also know that eventually they'll absorb the real sickness behind it.

Yeah, that would chill me too. It's like a horror movie.

Iron Man was full of "Win"...I'll be owning that on DVD.

How sad is it when one human being can't be friendly and say hello to another without a reaction like that. It's not like the person was asking directions or starting up a conversation, just an hello to a child. How sad the child has been taught to think that way.
