Today's definition of suck:

Our house is split into 2 plumbing areas. One is to the back 3 bathrooms. The other is for the kitchen, small front bathroom, and laundry room.

The latter has developed a problem. Stuff happening upstairs is backing up into the laundry tub and some from the pipe onto the floor. Brian spent yesterday afternoon chiseling up the concrete some dillweed poured over the pipe as it goes into the ground. Hoping it was the elbow degrading, he removed it. That's when he realized that there are multiple holes in the cast iron pipe. Time to call in the plumbers. They tell him to clear a 10' path. We do, moving things that have been covering the area for a decade. And yeah...the concrete is saturated several inches around the path of the pipe.

Thus ends my initial definition of suck for today. Not sure I'm done defining it yet. More to come when the plumbers arrive between 11 and 11:30

Having dealt with (and still paying for) a $15k plumbing misadventure from 2005, remember to get a 2nd opinion before committing to any drastic repairs.

For example, the pipe may have holes.
Can it be cleaned out?
If so, can a 'sleeve' be inserted instead of digging up everything and hurting your pocket book really badly?

Check around. I had a blockage. If you only have holes and no block, it may be an alternative.

Good luck!

I already dug up the end of the pipe to get a look. Its bad. Spoke to someone about options. These are just as bad. they will be here Friday morning with a jack hammer. :-(
