Not sure who still reads, but there is something that is really starting to piss me off. It's called judging others to narrow minded standards. Shame on you.

I am 47. I dress the way I want to...I do not dress 'my age' because my age is just a fucking number.

My makeup suits my mood and my style, sure as hell it doesn't stay within the lines some really insecure, pompous people would label as 'appropriate'.

And you know what? I look really good. Really damn good. And I probably am far more comfortable in my skin than you are in yours.

If you ever utter the words "[dress, act, behave] your age", I might feel nothing but contempt for you...except that your outdated, uptight, puritan attitudes don't matter to me. I actually feel really sorry for you.

If you see yourself in this, please, by all means, unfriend me. We really don't have that much in common anyway.

*mwah* Nothing wrong with continually improving, but to dress/apply makeup/and speak as though I'm my grandmother...it makes me cranky. I cannot wait for some of these young jerks to get a little older to get how ridiculous they sound now.

You, me, Batty...we are setting standards for everyone else, gorgeous. Good lord...in another decade when you hit 40, you are gonna be heartstopping! ;)

I hear you. I get comments about my clothing at work almost daily, but I do my job well, my boss loves me, and my more alternative look actually helps me relate to my younger students. Everyone else can bugger off. It's me, and I'm more confident with who I am now, at 40, than I was even 10 years ago. There are things I can't get away with anymore because I think they make me look older, but that's just what I'm comfortable with. Tiffany and I were just having a similar discussion about this with regards to my crazy sister and she made the point that age doesn't matter if you have the skill to do you makeup the way you like it and your clothing and makeup reflect who you really are inside and make you feel good about yourself, if other people don't understand that, screw em.

People are saying that to you because they are constantly confusing you with someone who cares what they think.

You really do look good.
2nd-Jul-2011 07:53 pm (UTC) - What age am I?
My chronological age is 51. My apparent age and physical age, depending on meds, mood, and weather, is between 40 and 60.
Now, here's where the problems start - inside my head, I'm still 19. (There's a reason our wedding song was Joe Jackson's "19 Forever".) And there's a 10-year-old boy in there, who jumps in puddles and gets dirty, and loves bodily function jokes. There's also an ancient cynical crone who pipes up occasionally. So what age should I be dressing, acting, or behaving for?

And another thing, tangentially related - why in all the hells don't they put usable pockets into skirts and dresses? I'd be more likely to wear "appropriate" clothing if it truly was appropriate, and contained pockets for my cards, phone, and keys.
